Meria Shantez

Meria Shantez is a 22 year-old American born singer-songwriter from Gretna, Florida. God has blessed her with a wonderful gift and she desires to share it with the world.  Meria is multi-talented and confident in whom God has called her to be. Singing since the age of 9, her desire is to impact the world through music by telling of the love and sovereignty of Jesus Christ.

As a teenager, Meria sang in both the adult and youth choirs, even serving as director of the mass choir.  Her vocal ability is just a portion of the magnificent gift God has bestowed upon her.  She composed the title song for the Stage Play Production “I Almost Gave Up”. She has also loaned her writing skills to other plays such as “It Pays to Dream,” “It’s Not Over Yet,”

“Don’t Count…Me Out,” or “From Rags to Riches, You Can Make It Off of Broken…Pieces.” Refining her vocal abilities under the tutelage of choir director Rasheen Jamison Richardson, Meria has travelled to Manhattan, NY with her high school honors chorale, the “Jaguar Singers”. She performed under the direction of the renowned Jeffery Redding at the legendary Carnegie Hall.

It is her prayer that lives are changed through the ministry that God has placed in her. Meria’s advice:

“Don’t give up on the promise God has given you. No matter how much pain you have gone through, you must know that it had a purpose. Romans 8:28 says, “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” Regardless of your situation, you must know that you have a purpose!”

She longs to be a vessel that God can use to spread his Word through song. When she sings the passion for God’s people pours from her heart.  She has a heart for the elderly as well as youth. Building a home for the elderly and a center for the youth is only a portion of what Meria desires to do.  Currently, she is in the process of creating a Non-profit organization called “Destiny Chasers” for young people who have a dream, but don’t have the resources or guidance to pursue those dreams.

The Bible says to “despise not small beginnings.”  As a product of a small town, she is determined to show the world that something great can come from something small.  Growing up, Meria had more than her fair share of pain, but she is committed to allowing that pain to propel her into her God Driven Destiny!  Her book, “Me, Myself, and I,” which was published in 2008 details some of the struggles Meria dealt with as a child.

In November of 2011, Meria decided to follow the voice of God and relocate to Madison, AL.  While there, she began working with James Carter at A God Driven Destiny.

In June of 2012, Mr. Tyler Perry announced that he would be having a Talent Search for his movie Madea’s Witness Protection.  Upon receiving this news, Meria promptly submitted her original song penned as a tribute to her mom.  With over 14,000 submissions, God saw fit for Meria to be named in the Top Ten.

Meria is currently a member of Unity Christian Fellowship International Ministries, Huntsville, AL under the leadership of the great Pastor Ernest Edwards.  There she serves as a member of the praise and worship team.
